Is there any reason why you can't use precompiled binary from

There are a number of packages for GNU/Linux including .deb
for Debian and .rpm for RedHat/SUSE. There is also the .tar.bz2
package that can be used on any GNU/Linux distribution. Using
precompiled binary distribution is a much easier way to start
using XSD.
